Match Overview
Real Madrid will consider themselves to be the downright favourites when they take on Chelsea in the first leg of the quarterfinal of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. In upheaval over the sacking of their manager Graham Potter, Chelsea have appointed former chief Frank Lampard as their caretaker manager. Madrid will be keen on gaining from the dissonance in the Chelsea backroom.
Key Highlights
Chelsea will be disturbed by the fact that they have not got on the scoresheet in the last three games that they have played (against Wolves, Liverpool and Aston Villa.) Real Madrid, too, have lost two out of the last five matches that they have played. Despite a loss to Villarreal over the weekend, Madrid will be primed for success at the Bernabeu here on Wednesday.
Injury Report
While Ferland Mendy is the only player to be missing out in action for the home team, Chelsea have a long list of injuries. Thiago Silva, Mason Mount, Armando Broja and Cesar Azpilicueta are all expected to be absent for this game. Chelsea's defensive line is bound to suffer a lot owing to the absence of Silva and Azpilicueta.
Prediction
Real Madrid are the overwhelming favourites to win this game against Chelsea. They will be hoping to pick up as many goals as they can before travelling to London to play the second leg of this clash. When these two teams met in the same stage of the same competition last season, Real Madrid emerged winners over the two legs with an aggregate of 5-4. They will be expected to do the same this time around as well.
